What should I pack?

What’s the weather going to be like?
This question is so common and also impossible to answer with much clarity. So...it depends. On average, broadly speaking, temps in the summer may range from high 40s to high 70s. It can reach the 80s in Fairbanks, while Anchorage and Seward are often milder. Clouds and rain are likely at some point. With luck you'll get some glorious sun. Take a look at more weather by destination and region.
When do I show up for my tour/where is my hotel/when does my train leave?
If you've booked any part of your trip to Alaska with us, check your travel documents. We email these out after you've made your final trip payment. Your complete itinerary has all your daily departure information including time, location, and contacts. And, bonus! Advice on what to wear.
Do I need to bring my passport?
If you're a US citizen traveling direct from the Lower 48, no need to bring a passport. If you are not a US citizen or if you're taking a cruise, you need to bring your passport.
What do I do if I see a bear?
First, and this goes for any wildlife, absolutely do not approach. Get a closer look with binoculars or a telephoto lens. Now for bears specifically, take a second to read our complete bear aware advice.
Will it really be light at midnight?
Sure will. Here in Anchorage we don't see true night from about April 18 to August 23.
Will my cell phone work up there?
At&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile have decent coverage in larger communities. Expect to lose service in between towns (load your maps before you hit the road!). WiFi is also available at most lodging. Internet speeds may be slower than you're used to and there are occasionally outages, especially the more remote you go.
